Pharmacoeconomics is the branch of health economics that evaluates the costs and outcomes of pharmaceutical interventions to determine the most efficient use of healthcare resources. It compares alternative drug therapies in terms of cost, clinical effectiveness, and overall impact on quality of life. In infectious diseases such as urinary tract infections (UTIs), pharmacoeconomic evaluation is particularly important because inappropriate antimicrobial use can lead to treatment failure, prolonged illness, increased hospitalization, and antimicrobial resistance.
