Dr. Mohammed Maaz Zakariyya*
Takmeed (fomentation) is an important regimenal therapy under Ilaj-bit-Tadbeer in Unani medicine. It involves the application of heat for therapeutic purposes in painful and inflammatory conditions. Modern physiotherapeutic modalities such as shortwave diathermy, longwave diathermy, infrared radiation therapy, and paraffin wax therapy also utilize controlled heat application for pain relief, tissue healing, muscle relaxation and enhancement of circulation. This review explores the conceptual relationship between classical Takmeed and contemporary thermotherapeutic techniques. The article highlights similarities in mechanism of action, therapeutic indications, physiological effects and clinical applications. Furthermore, it emphasizes the need for modernization, standardization, and scientific validation of Takmeed therapy to strengthen evidence-based Unani medicine. Integration of modern thermotherapy with traditional Unani concepts may improve the global acceptance and clinical utility of Unani regimenal therapies.[15,16]
