REVIEW ON ROLE OF BIOFLAVONOIDS IN TREATMENT OF METABOLIC SYNDROME

The development of dietary flavonoids as multipurpose bioactive substances has important ramifications for managing and preventing chronic illnesses. This study offers a thorough synthesis of flavonoid taxonomy, chemistry, dietary sources, and bioavailability using the most recent experimental, clinical, and epidemiological data, paying particular emphasis to their structural variety and fundamental processes. With an emphasis on the regulation of vital cellular pathways such, NF-κB, and AMPK, mechanistic developments pertaining to antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anti-obesity, cardioprotective, and anticancer actions are addressed. Clinical data and evidence from in vitro and in vivo models show that flavonoids can control oxidative stress, inflammation, metabolic syndrome, adipogenesis, and angiogenesis. There is evidence of an inverse relationship between dietary patterns high in flavonoids and the risk of obesity, cancer, cardiovascular disease, and neurological disorders. Translational issues still exist, nonetheless, including as bioavailability and delivery strategy improvement. In summary, a diverse dietary intake of flavonoids is a scientifically supported strategy for preventing non-communicable diseases, but more study is necessary to improve clinical applicability and clarify molecular mechanisms.
