RASA DRAVYAS AS VRUSHYA - A REVIEW

Introduction: Ayurveda is one of the oldest medical science in the history of human beings. Rasashastra is one of the branches of ayurveda that deals with the Ayurvedic pharmaceutics, manufacturing and dispensing of the Rasaushadhis. These formulations are well known for treating the various acute as well as chronic diseases. These rasa dravyas exhibits various actions on the body and cures many diseases. Vrushya is the property or action (Karma) which enhances the production of healthy sperms, which leads to healthy progeny. Materials and Methods: The present review is mainly focused on the Rasa dravyas which exhibits Vrushya property. The information regarding the vrushya action were mainly collected from classical texts and digitally available sources like journals and websites etc. Results: Rasa dravyas which are having attributes or properties like Madhura rasa, guru and snigdha guna, sheeta virya, Madhura vipaka does the action of Rasayana, Vrushya and Virya vardhaka and also increases sperm count and motility. Discussion: Rasa Dravyas have rasayana action which aid in giving Vrushya action. These rasa dravyas helps to treat infertility in males by stimulating hormone secretions based on their action on body. Vrushya action is beneficial in various sexual and reproductive diseases (vitiated shukra dhatu) of men. Hence an attempt was made to analyze the role of rasa dravyas as vrushya based on their properties or attributes.
