ABSTRACT

EVOCATIVE SCRUTINY OF PRAMEHA AND ITS MANAGEMENT IN AYURVEDA WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO DIABETES MELLITUS

Prameha is one of the “AshtaMahagada.”[1] and which results from abnormal metabolism. The description of Prameha from various Ayurvedic classics helps in through understanding of the disease. Prameha is a disorder characterized by an increase in both the quantity and frequency of micturition (Mutra Atipravrutti). Prameha is a clinical phenomenon in which patient passes large quantity of urine similar to Madhu having kashaya & Madhura taste, Ruksha texture & Honey like colour and thus body attains sweetness.[2] Prameha (diabetes mellitus) is a chronic metabolic disorder defined by increase in the blood glucose level, caused by abnormal insulin synthesis and impaired insulin utilization or both. Due to the abnormal insulin production and impaired insulin utilization or both. Which leads to over time serious damage to the heart, blood vessels, eyes, kidneys and nerves. [3]
