REVIVING ANIDRA CHIKITSA IN AYURVEDA – A COMPREHENSIVE LITERATURE REVIEW

Sleep is crucial for physical and cognitive well-being. Habitual sleeplessness or simply inability to sleep for a minimum period, which is necessary for a sound mental and physical health, is called insomnia (Anidra). Ayurveda recognizes the importance of sleep to health and has considered it as one among the upstambha of life. As per Ayurveda, Anidra which is due to aggravation of Vata Dosha. Insomnia is the most common sleep problem worldwide and can lead to various mental health issues, including mood disorders and an increased risk of conditions like bipolar disorders. Additionally, poor sleep is linked to physical ailments such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes. In order to cure sleeplessness, allopathic doctors now recommend a variety of tranquilizers. Many people have developed a dependence on and chronic use of sleeping medications. Potentially dangerous side effects of sleeping pills include constipation, loss of appetite, dizziness, daytime sleepiness, and trouble maintaining equilibrium. Therefore, it is crucial to comprehend how Ayurveda approaches sleeplessness. This article discuses insomnia from an Ayurvedic perspective, including its causes, effects and management.
