Drug delivery through the buccal route has become common due to its numerous benefits, including bypassing first – pass metabolism, which enhances the bioavailability of the drug and decreases the quantity of the drug required. Furthermore, drugs with a high molecular weight that cannot be administered via the oral route can be administered using the buccal route. Compared to oral administration, the buccal route shows several advantages. The buccal route provides systemic bioavailability due to the high blood circulation through the cheek and it avoids first – pass hepatic metabolism and gastrointestinal drug degradation. Moreover, it is suitable for self – medication and easy for dose control and has a removable formulation form. It is considered as a convenient and easily accessible site for the drug administration for both local and systemic delivery. Characterization and Evaluation of buccal drug delivery system involving physical properties and In vitro studies.
