ABSTRACT

EFFECT OF LIGHT AND DARK CONDITIONS ON THE PIGMENT CONTENTS OF PROTEIN RICH ALGA SPIRULINA PLATENSIS

Light plays an important role in the photosynthesis and metabolic process of microalgae. However, how different light conditions regulate the biomass production and protein accumulation of microalgae is mostly unknown. In the present investigation, effect of light and dark condition on the pigment content of protein rich alga Spirulina platensis. The experiment was conducted for 15 days and data were analysed at the interval of 2 days maximum concentration of chlorophyll a were 4.890 μg/ml-1 at light condition and Phycocynin 0.098μg μgml-1 respectively.
