SOFT GELATIN CAPSULE IN PHARMACEUTICAL DOSAGE FORMS: AN OVERVIEW

Soft gelatin capsules are solid, single-dose dosage forms that typically contain liquids and have a gelatin shell. After tablets, soft gelatin capsules (SGCs) are the most used pharmacological type. In a liquid or semisolid fill that is encased in a gelatin shell, the active substances, active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), or nutrients are dissolved, distributed, or suspended. The goal of the current study was to evaluate the feasibility of applying a gastric-resistant coating on soft gelatin capsules using the spouted bed method. Disintegration tests, traction deformation testing, image analysis, and the assessment of the coating mass distribution and shape factor variation during the coating process were used to gauge the product quality. The tests were conducted in a spouted bed with a conical base angle of 408, and a column diameter of 200 mm. M0 ¼ 300 g had the highest coating efficiency ratings. As the Ws/Wg ratio increased, coating efficiency tended to rise as well. According to disintegration tests, a coating mass of 3.86 mg/cm2 produced the gastric-resistant effect. Throughout the coating process, the form factor increases. The initial distribution was generally maintained by the coating mass distribution of the capsule.
