A STUDY ON CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE AND TO ASSESS THE FUNCTIONAL PERFORMANCE STATUS AND CKD PATIENTS WHO ARE ON HEMODIALYSIS AND NOT ON HEMODIALYSIS

Introduction: Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is defined as kidney damage or an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) ≤ 60ml/min/1.73 mt2, persisting for 3 months or more, irrespective of the cause It is a state of progressive loss of kidney ultimately resulting in the need for renal replacement therapy that is transplant or dialysis. The major risk factors of developing CKD include DM type 1 and 2, hypertension, glomerulonephritis, use of NSAIDS, PCKD etc. According to WHO global burden of disease project, kidney disease of the kidney and CKD is the 12th leading cause of the death and 17th leading cause of disability in the world. Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the functional performance status of individuals with chronic kidney disease (CKD) in the Hyderabad region, comparing those undergoing hemodialysis with those not on hemodialysis. Methods: A cross-sectional analysis was conducted on a sample population comprising CKD patients from healthcare facilities in Hyderabad. Participants were categorized into two groups: those actively undergoing hemodialysis and those not receiving hemodialysis. Functional performance status was assessed using standardized measures, including activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs). Medical records, including dialysis history, comorbidities, and laboratory parameters, were also reviewed. Results: Preliminary findings reveal that CKD patients on hemodialysis exhibited variations in functional performance compared to those not on hemodialysis. Subgroup analyses consider factors such as age, duration of CKD, and comorbid conditions, aiming to elucidate the specific impact of hemodialysis on functional outcomes. Conclusion: This study addresses a critical gap in the understanding of CKD patients’ functional status in the Hyderabad region. By comparing those undergoing hemodialysis with those not on hemodialysis, it provides insights into the potential effects of hemodialysis on the day-to-day activities of CKD patients. The findings contribute to holistic patient care, aiding healthcare providers in tailoring interventions and support services to improve the functional well-being of CKD patients in the local community.
