Cinnamomum zeylanicum most commonly known as Cinnamon is a widely used aromatic condiment and a spice obtained from the bark of cinnamon tree. Cinnamaldehyde is an aromatic compound found in cinnamon bark. The primary aim of this study is to obtain cinnamaldehyde from Cinnamomum zeylanicum. This was achieved by using Soxhlet extraction process. The results obtained from the schiff’s test, tollen’s test, solubility etc. indicated that the product extracted was Cinnamaldehyde. Schiff bases, known for their diverse pharmacological activities, have garnered considerable attention in medicinal chemistry. In this study, we present the synthesis and evaluation of a cinnamyl Schiff base derived from cinnamaldehyde. The synthesis involved the reaction between cinnamaldehyde and an appropriate amine. Characterization studies, including Tollen’s test, Schiff test, Ninhydrin test, Mayer’s test & Bromine water test confirmed the formation of the target compound.
