Vaitarana Basti is a distinct Niruha Basti outlined in Ayurveda for addressing Vata-Kapha disorders linked with Ama. It exhibits properties such as Deepana, Pachana, Lekhana, Shothahara, and Vata-Kapha Shamaka, making it effective for conditions like Amavata, Sandhigata Vata, Gridhrasi, and various musculoskeletal issues. This review seeks to gather and examine traditional references, composition, therapeutic indications, and likely mechanisms of action of Vaitarana Basti from both Ayurvedic and contemporary viewpoints. The literature available indicates that its unique ingredient combination aids in eliminating harmful doshas, enhancing digestion and metabolism, reducing inflammation, alleviating pain and stiffness, and restoring mobility. The review concludes that Vaitarana Basti is a significant Panchakarma procedure with promising clinical potential, although more rigorous scientific research is needed to bolster the current evidence.
